Have you ever wondered whether the sun chases the moon or the moon follows the sun? They both go around and around rising and falling. For a time it might appear that the sun blazing at high noon is steady and fixed or that the full moon hangs glowing in the night sky. But no. Onward they go. No going back.

The walk of our lives is the same. We move onward step by step, joy and adversity by joy and adversity. Now and again we might feel like it’s two steps forward, two steps back. But even that pattern holds only for a time. Best to wait it out – until you can manage 1½ steps forward. Hooray! 1½ steps!

Like the sun and the moon there is no walking backward; only ahead, only forward, onward, upward into next.
