Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.
Hello to you in Anchorage, Alaska!
Imagine this: I’d been on the Camino de Santiago a little over a week when I got lost early on a Sunday morning miles outside of Viana. I’d stopped at a lake named the Route of the Sorcerer. Back in the XVI century witches from all over Spain came here to celebrate in the meadow that the lake now fills. Wandering around the lake edge I was enchanted by the place and the legend. When I picked up what I thought was the Camino I found myself in a sprawling industrial park closed for the weekend, no one in sight. I’m lost on the Camino – now what?
Just around a bend appeared a man in a white beekeeper suit, but no hives I could see. Pointing he said “Camino alli!” (go that way) and ‘fabrica’ which means factory. Waving my thanks, I trekked up the long deserted road, and in time came to a factory, a ditch, a chain link fence, and a highway. Clambering through and across I found the familiar blue and yellow Camino sign and knew I was no longer lost. Luck or sorcery?
