Dad was the instigator: a new recipe, a different place to go camping, always some idea. Although in truth what dad liked most of all was a good walk, a good meal, and a good seat beside a lake.
Mom was the do-er: she made it all happen. As the first born daughter and eventually eldest of 7 children I became a do-er, too. I couldn’t understand dad’s desire to just be in the present moment. I was too busy, doing.
