I don’t know about you but here we are already 3 months into the new year and what do we have to show for it? More meetings, Zoom Room conferences, online fill in the blank, social media platform drivel, or something else?

I recall something my baby brother said to me of a morning while standing in the kitchen of our parents’ home. “I don’t see you flourishing,” he said. Flourishing. My nationally recognized litigation consulting practice was flourishing; but me? Not so much. While proud of all I had achieved on behalf of my clients, I’d forgotten to invest in my happiness, inner joy, pleasure.

“When you die,” says the Koran, “God will call upon you to account for all the permitted pleasures you did not enjoy while on earth.”

The Talmud offers a similar idea: “A person will be called upon to account, on Judgment Day, for all the permitted pleasures he might have enjoyed but did not.”
