Episode Notes
Hello to you listening in Snowflake, Arizona!
Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.
I’ve seen them now and then as I walk Honeymoon Bay Road: sitting still as statues in a mist-shrouded morning yard, tapping slowly across a 2 lane road, disappearing into the woods. I wish I had two hearts to express what it feels like to see a brown deer and her ghost fawn – white, all white, except for the dark nose and eyes.
Locals know how to drive the roads with an eye out for the wildlife and when we come upon deer in the roadway we stop, put on our flashers and wait until the road is clear. I’ve seen people from away – the city tourists – also stop and look as if mesmerized, not quite able to believe their eyes: did we really just see a ghost fawn?
I know I could take photos just to look at when I finally slow down. But most days I stop my walking and stand with my hands folded near my heart, breathing, smiling. And it’s enough.
