60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: For What Did the Deceased Have Affection?

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Maybe like me you’ve been set the task of writing an obituary or delivering a eulogy for a loved one. Perhaps you’ve sat staring into space wondering where and how do I begin?

I have a suggestion for you. Put aside the numbers, the credentials, the framed diplomas, and the run-on list of who begat whom. Ask yourself: What did the deceased hold in his or her affection? What brought them to light and life? How did they move through the day? Where did they turn for solace and inspiration? What dreams did they realize? What dreams stayed beyond their grasp? What is it that you recall about them celebrating delights, weathering challenges, exploring the mystery that was given to them to live. Some foibles, some mistakes, some pretty good times, some not so bad after all.

After the mourners have gone their separate ways perhaps what will remain with them is the feeling that no matter what Life has visited upon us, at the end of the day we can concede, “If this isn’t happiness, I don’t know what is!”
