60 Seconds For Story Prompt Friday – The Leader That Doesn’t Smell Bad

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with several questions carefully chosen to help you collect stories in the oral tradition or spark your own writing. Either way you’ll say, “Thanks for the memories!”
Once upon a time, long ago, far away and before man walked the Earth, the Dog People decided to elect a new leader. Under the full moon of a summer eve they gathered in a clearing in the woods. One by one each dog stood up and told the others why he or she should be named the leader.
Greyhound said she could run the fastest. The Dog People agreed Greyhound was a fast runner.
Bulldog said he had the fiercest growl. The Dog People agreed that Bulldog was a fierce growler.
Hound Dog said he could sing the best. All the Dog People were good singers but they agreed it wasn’t a party unless Hound Dog was singing.
All night long the Dog People barked and argued about what to do; but they could not agree on who should be elected as their leader.
Finally, little Chihuahua stood up on a log and said, “I have an idea. We should elect as our leader the dog that doesn’t smell bad under its tail.” All the dogs agreed that this was fair.
The Dog People are still without their leader – but not for lack of looking. If you watch dogs today when they meet and circle and sniff each other, they are still searching for the leader that doesn’t smell bad under its tail.
Prompt: Introduce us to the leader in you. What traits, values, and qualities have you honed over the years to be a better leader? What experiences, doubts and challenges have you overcome to better inform how you lead? And, at the end of the day how do people know to follow your lead?
Share your story with someone or something: your journal, your animal companion, the trees in the woods. All that matters is you take time to capture a story about leadership, yours or another’s.
This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories – stay for the magic. Speaking of magic, would you share a nice rating/review on iTunes.
